Nikon D810 First Outing

After receiving one of the first Nikon D810 cameras to hit the US, a couple weeks ago, I FINALLY had a chance to take it on its first real outing.

As part of the compensation package for an event I’m photographing, the client included a couple free tickets to the Hootie and The Blowfish Homegrown Concert at Family Circle Stadium. Even though it wasn’t part of the paying gig, I told them I’d photograph a few shots of the concert for them while I was there. With no pressure, it was the perfect chance to give the new camera a real-world test!

I have to say, at half the price, it’s not a D4, but I’m VERY impressed! Mostly shot at ISO 800-1600, hardly any grain or noise is noticeable. The camera was fast to focus, quiet in operation, and handled like a dream. I still have to calibrate all my lenses to it. But as far as I’m concerned, the new D810 passes with flying colors and has earned its keep in my bag!
